What is Group Therapy?
Group therapy involves weekly meetings with select individuals (usually 8-10) who meet to discuss their concerns and problems, led by a therapist who helps facilitate the conversation. Participants gain new perspectives from each other as they share and reflect upon their experiences. Many useful elements emerge in therapy groups including universality (realizing you are not alone), altruism (providing support to others), building hope, gaining information, making connections to family process, group comradery, developing socializing skills, catharsis, interpersonal learning, existential growth, and self-exploration.
