Dr. Steve Vinay Gunther

I am director of Gestalt Therapy International, and founder of www.learngestalt.com, the largest source of Gestalt resources online.

My interest and study of psychotherapy spans 50 years; I have been in private practice for 40 years. My training includes Gestalt therapy, Family therapy, Career coaching, Narrative therapy, Family constellations, NLP and Somatic psychotherapy.

My background includes theatre and clowning, street theatre, community activism, and I have run several businesses including a vegetarian cafe, a sign writing business, and a food coop.

I founded the Northern Rivers Gestalt Institute in Australia – a Masters degree program – and was director for 17 years. I have developed a unique process called Career Decision Coaching, which integrates a number of approaches in one focused session, and helps people find their ideal career path.  I was professor of Spiritual Psychology at a College in Los Angeles for 10 years, and have been meditating for 50 years. I teach internationally, including the Middle East, South Africa and South America. In China I run a full professional training program, and also Relational Parenting workshops.

I am the author of a best selling book for men called  The Woman In Your Life – A Man’s Guide to a Happy Relationship, published also in Spanish and Chinese.

I enjoy my work, and find a great deal of satisfaction from helping people move through their challenges, towards self discovery and empowerment. I find teaching and training particularly rewarding, and I integrate theory and experiential approaches in my educational approach.

I have 5 grown children and 4 grandchildren, and recently completed a Phd on the interpersonal dimensions of power. I live in Shanghai with my Chinese partner, in a lovely historic building in the French Concession area.
