Dr. Li Cunningham is a licensed clinical psychologist in the State of Indiana, U.S., and has over ten years of clinical experience practicing psychology. She has a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Nanjing University, and was later awarded master’s and doctorate degrees in Counseling Psychology from the University of Missouri in the U.S. During her years of studies, she advanced her research in areas of adaptive and maladaptive perfectionism, acculturation, religious coping/spirituality, and racial discrimination.

Dr. Li Cunningham utilizes Person-Centered Therapy as a foundation while working with patients, and she is well experienced using CBT, ACT, IPT and DBT approaches to tailor treatment to patients’ needs from a respectful and multicultural stance. Dr. Li Cunningham has worked at different clinical settings, including hospital, university counseling centers, and community centers. Before residing in Shanghai, she served at University of Illinois Counseling Center as a psychotherapist and chair of the Eating Disorders Treatment Team, focusing on crisis intervention as well as diagnosis and treatment for eating disorders. Dr. Li Cunningham is a member of the American Psychological Association and has published research in psychology journals, including the Journal of Diversity in Higher Education. In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Li Cunningham is also dedicated to clinical supervision and provides regular supervision to multiple clinical trainees and full-time therapists. In her personal life, she is a mother to two sons and enjoys traveling with her family, trying out diverse cuisines, and checking out cultural sites in Shanghai.
