I have immersed myself in the field of counseling psychology for about 13 years, and obtained my Ph.D. from Texas A&M University and psychologist license in the United States. My special clinical interests include depression, anxiety, international students/employees, family of origin, cultural identity/adjustment, career counseling, and grief/loss. While advancing myself in my professional endeavors, accumulating clinical experience in diverse settings (e.g., hospital, university counseling center), I also engage in therapy as a client to deepen my self-awareness and to heal my wounded self.

From my perspective, counseling is more than just providing an empathic listening ear and a supportive environment. It is also about understanding how you approach your emotions, and how unprocessed emotions could automatically trigger problematic responses. These problematic responses include, but are not limited to, rigid ways of thinking, habitual defenses to avoid emotional pains (e.g., addiction, workaholism, procrastination), or your very own special mixture of emotional storm. For example, for many folks, sadness, anger, and anxiety come as a package.

In counseling, we zoom in with curiosity and patience to trace how that emotional storm came to be. We also collaborate to explore alternative ways of responding to your emotions. In a nutshell, the ultimate goal is not to make you dependent on your counselor, but instead to reinforce your hidden authentic self, and to repair your relationship with yourself, others and the world.
