I have been practicing as a licensed clinical psychologist for 25 years, including practicing in Shanghai for the past 12 years. My goal is to offer compassionate and effective care for adults and adolescents, working diligently with each one to move as quickly as possible towards recovery.
I have headed up behavioral health clinics in both the US and Shanghai, and served as Associate Professor of Psychology & Director of Clinical Training for an APA-approved doctoral clinical psychology program at the Fuller School of Psychology (Pasadena). I have served on faculty at several major universities including Vanderbilt University (Nashville) and American University (Washington, D.C.), and currently serve on faculty at the Shanghai University School of Music (Distinguished Professor of Psychology & Musicology).
I have also served in government, heading up the Virginia Department of Mental Health as Commissioner in the late 1990s. I authored a well-received book based on this experience titled “Healing the Broken Mind: Transforming America’s Failed Mental Health System” (NYU Press, 2009). My books and articles have been published by professional psychology journals, public policy think tanks, and university presses.
