Vilia Lyell

Dr Vilia Lyell qualified as a Clinical Social Worker and then pursued further postgraduate studies in Psychology, obtaining a Masters Degree and Doctoral Degree in Psychology. Vilia played a primary role as Director of Childline Johannesburg (child abuse organization) developing standards and protocols still used today. Since leaving the NGO sector in 1998, she has enjoyed a fulfilling career in private practice. Vilia worked extensively in the forensic field, appearing as an expert witness in matters pertaining to child abuse, domestic violence, and child custody disputes.

Vilia approaches psychotherapy from an integrative perspective by bringing together systemic, psychodynamic (object relations) and attachment approaches . Vilia endeavors to create an atmosphere of inquisitive reflection along with a sense of safety and commitment  to the therapist-patient bond. Therapy is offered to:

Play Therapy for children who are not yet verbal enough to articulate their thoughts and feelings due to their age. This methodology is developmentally applicable for emotional difficulties, behavioural problems, grief, trauma, adjustment difficulties and parental divorce/separation/discord.
